In its seventh run, the ART FAIR TOKYO is expanding: for the first time, the fair will take up the entire Tokyo International Forum Exhibition Hall. Over 160 galleries and renowned institutions such as the Mori Art Museum, Vitamin Creative Space, and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art will be present at the fair, which Deutsche Bank is supporting as main sponsor for the second time in a row. In its lounge, the bank will present selected photographic works by contemporary women artists from the corporate collection-including Yoshiko Seino, whose meditative pictures explore the boundaries between civilization and nature. Or Mariko Mori: since the 1990s, they've been investigating the boundaries between utopia and reality, with motifs from Eastern and Western art history merging with contemporary phenomena like fashion, music, and science fiction.
Although the ART FAIR TOKYO had to be postponed last year because of the devastating earthquake, it still attracted around 43,000 visitors. The prognosis is optimistic for 2012: the new section "Discover Asia" brings prominent galleries from major cities like Seoul, Taipei, and Beijing together with important Asian museums and institutions in order to provide an overview of the continent's vital art scene-ranging from antiquities to current positions. In addition, the "PROJECTS" section will be moving into the main halls. The focus is on new, room-sized sculptures and installations by young Asian artists. In 2011 still an exhibition experiment, the show "Artistic Practices" is now a fixture of the fair: with high-caliber works from all periods, it invites visitors on a journey through Japanese art history. Finally, Deutsche Bank once again supports children's and youth workshops in the context of this year's ART FAIR TOKYO to bring young visitors in touch with art and creativity. This time, the program stands under the sign of a worldwide understanding among different people and cultures. At a special stand, participants will be encouraged to make their own sculptures with the young artist Masayuki Kishimoto.
