"Unique and Forward-looking" Deutsche Bank
Lounge Awarded
 Deutsche
Bank VIP Lounge at the Art Cologne 2006, designed
by Karim Rashid
Mirrored floors, organically
shaped walls, and computer graphic network ornaments in pink and blue
rooms – the Deutsche
Bank VIP Lounge at the Art Cologne
2006 was very consciously created to stand out from the usual White Cubes.
It was not only visitors who were thrilled by Karim
Rashid’s innovative design. The jury for the ADAM,
or the Award der ausgezeichneten Messeauftritte (Award for excellent
exhibition stands), found the neon-colored ambience “unique and
forward-looking.” At this year’s ADAM awards presentation at the Essen
Philharmonie on November 16, the lounge received a special prize. The jury
based its decision on the “courage of the company to puts its logo and CI
behind the presentation.” “100 percent understatement yet still
unmistakable” was the jury’s concluding judgment. The ADAM has been
awarded since 2001 for outstanding trade fair participation. Architecture
and design are assessed, as well as successful communication of corporate
aims.

In his design for Art Cologne, Karim Rashid combined bright
colors and lounge comfort with a novel ambience that opens up unusual
perspectives and points of view. The installation reflects Deutsche Bank’s
commitment to providing access to contemporary art in new ways. In
addition, the VIP lounge serves as a communicative meeting point and
exhibition space for works from the Deutsche Bank Collection.

The Wintergarden prints
by the British artist Marc
Quinn – intentionally artificial-looking photos of plants – are an
ideal counterpoint to the interior design. At the same time, the ensemble
of rooms constitutes a forum for a number of Deutsche Bank events which
promote the fair in a sponsoring capacity. The VIP lounge does justice to
the current trend of converging art and design. Karim Rashid considers
himself a designer and artist in equal measure. And that’s why the New
Yorker was able to bring together these two worlds so convincingly in the
Deutsche Bank Lounge.
