DB Collection Italy: treasures in Milan
Open House Day at Deutsche Bank Italy headquarters

Open House Day at Deutsche Bank Italy headquarters

"The bank uncovers its treasures," declared ViviMilano, the weekly Milan supplement to the national daily Corriere della Sera. And the local edition of the daily La Repubblica dedicated an entire page to the Open House Day of DB Collection Italy. Following the official opening in March of this year, the Milan section of the Deutsche Bank Collection was presented to the public for the first time last October, 6th in the framework of the initiative "Invito a Palazzo" by the Associazione Bancaria Italiana (Italian Banking Association), for which over 50 banks all around Italy opened their doors. Visitors to the new Deutsche Bank Italian headquarters were greeted in the large entrance hall by Patrick Tuttofuoco’s hanging light sculpture X-Flag: one of the five installations made especially for the building, which was designed by the architect Gino Valle.

Creativity workshop for the young visitors

Around a thousand art enthusiasts thronged the imposing building at the Piazza del Calendario in the Milan district of Bicocca. While the children were entertained in creativity workshops and a stage program, adults were invited to experience the most important of the approximately 200 works of DB Collection Italy, on guided tours through the offices, halls, the foyer, and the cafeteria.

Guided tour through the DB Collection Italy

DB Collection Italy is an permanent art exhibition that inspires staff, clients, and guests, that provokes discussion, and that gives the building its inimitable character.

From Gabriele Basilico’s cool, elegant black and white studies of Milan’s industrial architecture and Vincenzo Castella’s atmospheric color photographs of abandoned houses to a large-scale beach panorama by Massimo Vitali or Ina Weber’s delicate watercolors of the kiosks that can be found everywhere from Lombardy to Sicily—Italy is the common theme of the presented works. In his commissioned piece Mare Nostrum, Luca Vitone also focuses on his native country: stylized ocean waves extend along a hallway wall, on top of which is the silhouette of Italy pieced together from framed postcards of popular vacation sites. An installation that perfectly reflects the motto of the building’s art—Viaggio in Italia, or Journey through Italy.

Whoever missed the premiere will also have the opportunity to visit DB Collection Italy on November 23, 2007. In 2008, the Collection will be opened to interested visitors on a regular monthly basis: January 29, February 26, April 22, and May 27. Next dates will be defined.
